Low Thyroxine Level During Pregnancy May Lead To Labour Problems

It has most likely been established that would be mothers who are low on hormones secreted by the thyroid gland would more like struggle during labour .

Low level of the hormone , as is well known , increases the chances of miscarriage and premature delivery. Now even the dutch team has found that low to normal level of thyroxine can cause further problems. Babies would be put in wrong positions and there would be problems in delivery. The babies' head would yet face downwards but the face would face the back rather the facing the stomach making it difficult for mothers to deliver.

The labour would not only be harder and longer but the probability of forced delivery (use of forceps) would also increase.

It highlights the importance of checking the thyroid levels during pregnancy.
